At Safe-Sweep Chimney Sweep, we understand the unique needs of our customers in Wirral, Chester, and Ellesmere Port. As your only formally qualfied local chimney sweep, we’ve compiled a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) we hear from new customers on a regular basis to address your concerns. Let’s explore!
How long does a sweep take?
• We allocate an hour for regular sweeping appointments, allowing for any surprises. However, most sweeps are completed within approximately 45 minutes, assuming no complications.
Do I need my stove serviced?
• Absolutely! At Safe-Sweep, safety and efficiency are our priorities. During your annual sweep and check, we thoroughly inspect all appliances—both inside and out—to ensure they operate safely. So a routine service becomes part of your regular sweep here at Safe-Sweep Chimney Sweep.
"Your wood burning/solid fuel stove installation should be inspected, serviced and maintained annually. We recommend choosing an NVQ qualified sweep to do this as they have been trained and assessed by a CITB approved training organisation so you can be assured that they have the experience and skills needed." – Stove Industry Association
Do you still use Rods and brushes?
• Yes! Rods and brushes remain essential tools for chimney sweeping. While you won’t see the brush if your appliance has a cowl, we encourage you to witness the process during open fire sweeps as tradition tells us you can make a wish when you see the brush popping out of the pot!!
Do you replace parts?
• Certainly we are fully qualified for both sweeping and service & maintenance! Our well-stocked van includes stove rope and a variety of maintenance products. We also supply replacement glass and firebricks.
If you need specific parts, please inform us when booking your appointment and we can usually source them on your behalf.
Is it a messy process?
Not usually. We try our utmost to take great care of your property:
• We remove footwear indoors (unless instructed otherwise).
• We use floor sheets to contain mess during stove dismantling.
• We seal appliances before sweeping to prevent soot from entering the room.
• Our commercial H-CLASS vacuum cleaner ensures thorough cleaning and dust control at all
stages of the sweeping process
How often should I get my chimney swept?
The frequency depends on your fuel type, the industry guidance is below
How Do You Prepare for Your Chimney Sweep Visit?
Before we arrive, a few simple steps can make the process smoother for both of us. Let’s dive in to them:
Cool It Down:
Refrain from using your fireplace for 24 hours before the appointment. A cool appliance is far safer to work on 🔥
Clear the Way:
Remove un-burnt fuel and debris from the fireplace or firebox.
Relocate companion sets, ornaments, candles, and valuables away from the hearth area.
Roll back any rugs or mats to create a clean workspace.
Power Up:
Ensure there’s an available electric socket for the sweep’s hoover.
Pets
We love pets here at Safe-Sweep but cute as they are, they don't make for very good sweeping assistants, so once they have introduced themselves to us and had their mad 5 minutes of saying hello, its easier for all parties if they can be put securely away from the sweeping area!
Coffee Break?
Feeling hospitable? Offer a black coffee (no sugar) to your sweep. It’s always appreciated and rarely turned down! ☕️😆
Do You Hold Any Formal Qualifications As A Chimney Sweep?
Yes at Safe-Sweep Chimney Sweep, we take pride in our formal qualifications.
Notably, we are the only NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) qualified chimney sweep based on the Wirral (that we know of). Additionally, we hold a membership with the National Chimney Sweeping Safety Association, an exclusive trade association that accepts only formally qualified sweeps into its ranks.
What Are The Benefits Of Hiring An NVQ Qualified Sweep?
• Formal Recognition: The NVQ provides formal recognition for competent chimney sweeps. It signifies a high level of skill and expertise within the industry.
• Safety and Efficiency: NVQ qualified sweeps undergo rigorous training and assessment. They understand the complexities of chimney systems, safety protocols, and efficient cleaning techniques.
• Industry Standards: Opting for an NVQ qualified sweep ensures alignment with industry standards. These professionals adhere to best practices, ensuring thorough cleaning and safe chimney operation.
• Peace of Mind: Knowing that your sweep holds an NVQ qualification provides peace of mind. You can trust their expertise and commitment to safety.
Do You Provide Proof of Sweeping
Yes, we provide proof of sweeping! As professional chimney sweeps, we issue a sweeping certificate upon completing our work. This document serves as a record of maintenance performed and is often required for home insurance purposes.
It underscores our adherence to industry standards and best practices at Safe-Sweep Chimney Sweep.
